PBS Strategic Agreements: What Government and Industry Told Patients Before the Next Deal
November 2, 2026

Australia’s Department of Health, Disability and Ageing used a 23 October 2026 webinar to explain the PBS strategic agreements to patient groups before talks on the next round begin. The current agreements with the Generic and Biosimilar Medicines Association (GBMA) and Medicines Australia started on 1 July 2022 and expire on 30 June 2027.
The session, titled “Working together on access to affordable and innovative medicines and therapies”, was the first in a planned series. Rebecca Richardson, Acting First Assistant Secretary of the department’s Technology Assessment and Access Division, presented alongside Nikki Lorenz, chief executive of the GBMA, and Elizabeth de Somer, chief executive of Medicines Australia. The recording will be published on the department’s HTA improvements webpage, together with a Q&A document covering questions the panel could not answer live.
