Spending on migraine medicines in Portugal reached about €9.9 million in community pharmacies in 2025, and patients paid roughly €6 million of it (61%). The National Health Service (SNS) paid €3.8 million (39%). SNS hospitals spent a further €5.8 million on anti-CGRP monoclonal antibodies, which are used only in hospital.

The figures come from the first edition of Deep Dive, a new monthly publication from Infarmed, Portugal’s medicines regulator, announced on 23 October 2026. Each issue looks at one therapeutic area or medicine policy measure. This one, prepared by Infarmed’s Direção de Informação e Planeamento Estratégico (DIPE), covers the medicines used to treat and prevent migraine.
