CagriSema weight loss in women

CagriSema weight loss in women was significant across menopause stages in two post hoc analyses of the phase 3 REDEFINE 1 trial, presented at The Menopause Society 2026 Annual Meeting in San Diego. In 2,309 women with obesity or overweight, the investigational combination was associated with average weight loss of 25.0% at week 68, compared with 3.0% with placebo, if all patients adhered to treatment. Novo Nordisk reported the results on 20 October 2026.

CagriSema weight loss in women across menopause stages

In a second analysis of 1,902 women, average weight loss at week 68 was 26.7% in premenopausal women, 24.8% in perimenopausal women and 23.1% in postmenopausal women. Placebo produced 2.1%, 1.7% and 2.6% respectively. The menopause groupings were derived after the trial from age, medical history and recorded symptoms, not from prospective reproductive staging or blood tests.

Across all women, waist circumference fell by 20.5 cm with CagriSema, against 4.7 cm with placebo. Discontinuation due to adverse events was 5.9% with CagriSema and 3.5% with placebo. Adverse events were mainly gastrointestinal, at 79.6% on CagriSema against 39.9% on placebo, including nausea (55% against 12.6%). Separate reporting on semaglutide adverse reactions is covered on Syenza News.

Why it matters

Many women gain weight through menopause, and Novo notes that reproductive stage is rarely evaluated in obesity research. The authors describe the analyses as hypothesis-generating. The menopause groupings were not based on biochemical confirmation, and the lead author says the numerical differences between stages point to the need for further research. CagriSema is not approved in the United States. Novo filed a New Drug Application in December 2025 and expects a decision in Q4 2026, and safety and efficacy are not yet established.
