Dapagliflozin Pricing Framework

Portugal’s Dapagliflozin Pricing Framework establishes a single reference price for all reimbursed 10 mg dapagliflozin tablets by creating homogeneous group GH1326. According to INFARMED’s latest notification, the measure responds to the arrival of an additional generic while addressing the medicine’s high patient volume and budget impact.

Lowest-Cost Anchor Selected

Dalzior’s €18.33 pack price becomes the new ceiling for the entire group, slashing the reference from the €42.78 charged by Forxiga and Edistride. Patients can now choose any therapeutically equivalent product at the lower reimbursed level without additional co-payment.

Legal and Supply Safeguards Activated

INFARMED invoked Decree-Law 97/2015, Decree-Law 46/2012, Decree-Law 176/2006 and Portaria 195-B/2015 to justify the grouping and verified adequate generic supply before implementation. The Dapagliflozin Pricing Framework therefore rests on both statutory authority and confirmed market availability.

Market-Wide Efficiency Gains Expected

The uniform €0.6546 unit reference price, effective 1 August 2026, is expected to accelerate generic uptake and generate substantial savings for the National Health Service. Continuous monitoring will maintain supply security and protect the sustainability of reimbursement in this high-volume therapeutic class.
