UC Biomed Building Investment

The Universidade de Coimbra (UC) is preparing to inaugurate its new UC Biomed building in the coming months, marking a significant milestone for the institution’s biomedical research and teaching capabilities. According to recent updates, the facility—located at Polo III—has entered its final phases of equipment installation and space organization, with the university anticipating an official opening soon.

The building boasts a total gross area of approximately 12,000 square meters and represents a total investment of around 30 million euros. This substantial project underscores UC’s commitment to advancing biomedical sciences through modern infrastructure. In support of its operational readiness, the university has awarded multiple public contracts since March for the supply and installation of laboratory equipment. These contracts, totaling more than 3.5 million euros, were secured through the Portuguese public procurement portal (Base) and focus on outfitting the labs with essential tools and technology.

Sources from UC’s communication office confirm that the final stages are actively underway, positioning the UC Biomed building as a key addition to the university’s research ecosystem. The project is expected to enhance collaborative opportunities in biomedicine, though specific details on research programs or partnerships have not yet been disclosed in available reports.

This development reflects broader efforts by Portuguese higher education institutions to modernize facilities and support cutting-edge scientific work. Further announcements regarding the exact inauguration date and operational highlights are anticipated in the near term.

The building covers 12,000 square meters and will open in the coming months. Further details appear in the rector’s March address.
