medical device distribution

Amethis, Proparco, ccap.ai and Vertice management have completed the acquisition of Vertice MedTech Holdings, positioning the company for accelerated expansion as the leading independent player in medical device distribution across Southern Africa. The transaction supports Vertice’s dual focus on physical device distribution through Vertice Healthcare and digital solutions via Vertice Software, which together enable more than 7,000 surgeries monthly and extend reach across public and private health sectors. This partnership directly advances the company’s established platform of exclusive agreements with manufacturers such as Abbott, Stryker and Haemonetics, while preparing for further organic growth and selective international scaling.

Integrated Model Enhances Healthcare Access

The investment highlights Vertice’s integrated model, in which specialised device supply chains in cardiovascular, urology, orthopaedics and spine segments operate alongside a SaaS-based software division delivering clinical workflow tools and AI-driven diagnostics. With more than 780 employees and distribution centres in Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town plus regional sites in Port Elizabeth, George and Bloemfontein, the organisation maintains nationwide coverage that facilitates timely access to advanced technologies. These operational elements combine to strengthen health-system capacity, support earlier diagnosis and treatment, and generate measurable socio-economic benefits through reduced disease burden and improved community productivity, all while preserving the firm’s independent market position in medical device distribution.

Building on Strong Foundations for Expansion

Vertice was established in 2018 by a management team led by Hendri Pretorius in partnership with Ethos Private Equity and has since grown into a platform serving Southern and Sub-Saharan Africa through 17 specialist divisions. Its structure encompasses both device distribution and software development, supported by longstanding manufacturer relationships that ensure consistent availability of high-quality products. The current transaction builds on this foundation by aligning new institutional partners with existing leadership to pursue expanded market share, entry into additional territories, and continued development of the software division for potential European deployment, all while maintaining rigorous operational and impact standards.

Driving Value in Regional Health Systems

The consortium’s backing is expected to facilitate broader diffusion of medical technologies and digital health tools, thereby improving market access for healthcare providers and patients in underserved settings. By scaling Vertice’s reach and technological capabilities, the investment aligns with core Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) priorities around efficient resource allocation, enhanced patient outcomes, and sustainable health-system strengthening. In the context of pricing and reimbursement discussions, the demonstrated ability to deliver high volumes of procedures alongside data-driven diagnostic support may inform value-based assessments that link device utilisation to measurable clinical and economic gains, while the emphasis on socio-economic development underscores the wider returns available when private capital targets healthcare infrastructure in emerging markets. This positions Vertice as a key player advancing medical device distribution throughout the continent.
